The Frankfort Plant Board WTP Ammonia System and Sulfuric Acid Upgrades project scope included the removal and replacement of the existing anhydrous ammonia feed system with a new Liquid Ammonia Sulfate (LAS) system to include two bulk liquid ammonia storage tanks, cast-in-place concrete containment with chemical resistant coatings, and installation of new chemical transfer and metering pumps along with the necessary chemical piping and tubing. A temporary ammonia feed system was established to ensure chemical feed throughout the duration of construction. Construction included site work and excavations, electrical revisions, new controls, and process interconnections. Work also includes miscellaneous improvements to the Sulfuric Acid systems including concrete repair and chemical resistant coatings at existing containment areas, addition of a second metering pump, and miscellaneous improvements.
